Writer, Poet, Musician, Runner, Coach
Self-expression is the driving force in my life, and much of the work I do is meant to exemplify this.
Creating, whether it be through writing a blog post, crafting a poem, or creating a new song, is what drives me. Passion and purpose in my life come from the idea of self-expression as a spiritual act.
Everything I do is driven by my desire to make both myself and the world around me a better place. Whether this happens to be going for an early morning run, when the sun starts to rise and shine down on a new day, when I pick up a pen and notebook and create a new blog post or poem, or when I pick up my guitar or ukulele to write a song, I have seen my voice make a difference in the lives of others.
Playing an open mic the night before Mother’s Day a few years ago, I decided to play what I call my “anti-Mother’s Day” song, Mama, about my struggles with a parent who didn’t care about me. As someone who was not lucky enough to grow up with good parents, I was rebelling against everyone who was extolling the virtues of motherhood. After the show, one woman came up to me to thank me for my song. She, also, felt similarly to me and was glad to have her heartache expressed in a song.
This is why I create. If I can touch one person with my songs, my writing, or any of the work I have done, then all the time and energy I put into it is worth it.
My hope, as a creator and creativity coach, is for each person to find their voice and be able to fully express their personal truths.
